  • What is the setting of Anne of Green Gables and how does it affect the characters and plot?


     

  • How does Anne use her imagination in her life? How does it affect those around her?


     

  • Throughout the book, Anne is shown giving everything and anything a name, even inanimate objects. Why do you think she names things?


     

  • How does Anne feel about her hair and what does that say about how she sees herself?


     

  • Why does Anne desire a puffed sleeve dress? What might the dress actually symbolize her desire for?


     

  • How do you think Anne is able to be resilient and hopeful throughout the challenges of her life? Can you recall a time you were resilient? (Resilience is the ability to keep going even when things get tough!)


     

  • Discuss the role of women in the novel. What are the expectations of women in the early 1900’s? In what way are these expectations broken and how does this affect each character?


     

  • Did you look up any words that you did not know while reading? What did they mean? Why do you think the author chose that word?


     

  • Do you share any similar traits with Anne? What do you have in common?

  • How does each character change throughout the story? What might cause these changes?

 

  • Did you learn any lessons from Anne or the other characters? Which lesson(s) did you learn?
